9th Grade Saturday Success School – Last one!
This past Saturday we hosted our second Saturday Success and we beat our attendance than we had the first week. 46 students came to work on missing assignments, retake assessments, study etc. I have attached and included the roster below for those of you who are incentivizing this opportunity, and thank you for doing so.

We are hosting our final session for 9th graders this coming Saturday, June 15 (9:00 am to noon) as well. Please remind all 9th graders about this opportunity.

One successful strategy we have seen in the past is incentivizing Saturday Success. Teachers of 9th grades…. if you are willing to incentivize Saturday Success attendance in your class, you are welcome to do so. Some ideas include:

  • Allowing a make-up or retake for something that is past due if they come to Saturday Success.
  • Dropping a low score if they come on Saturday.
  • Offering extra credit if they come.

A Message from Hazen Health Room

Dear Hazen Families,
It is time to plan for the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year. We are encouraging families to meet with your healthcare providers early to avoid the delays often experienced later in summer. This critical medical information will help ensure your student is as safe as possible when returning to school or starting athletics.

What should you do now?

To plan for the new school year and activities/athletics, please review the following.  Clinics can be booked months in advance. Make an appointment now to complete:

  • Individual Health Plans (IHP) for Asthma, Diabetes, Life Threatening Allergies, Seizures, and other life-threatening conditions (complete yearly)
  • Medication authorization paperwork for medicine taken at school (complete yearly)
  • Sports physicals if your student will play sports (complete every two years)
  • Vaccinations – Sign up for myirmobile to see if your student needs any school required immunizations.

Then what?

  • Completed health plans and medication authorizations can be delivered to Hazen with the needed medication before the start of school or athletics in August (blank plans are available online at the Renton School District website
  • Athletics - All required health forms for the new school year must be submitted before the start of summer season/tryouts/practice sessions in August.
  • * New - you are also able to submit forms at the end of this school year if your healthcare provider has signed them after May 15, 2024*
  • If your child has previously had an Epi-pen or inhaler at school, and no longer needs an Epi-pen or Inhaler at school, we MUST have a note from the doctor indicating that an epi-pen or inhaler is no longer required.
  • All Running Start students - if you plan to be on campus for any reason during the school year, and you have a life-threatening health condition, you need an updated yearly health plan. Reasons to be on campus can include meeting with your counselor, clubs, and other activities that are part of Hazen's bigger student experience. If you are unsure if you should complete the health plan, please contact the health room.

Thank you for your help in making the start of the next school year excellent.

Summer athletics information from the Hazen Health Room -
Nurses will be working this summer to answer questions and clear student-athletes for all the RSD high and middle schools for sports.  Here is important information to help families plan.

  • After the end of the school year on June 18, all family and staff inquiries into athletic clearing for the nurse should be sent to summer.athleticsnurse@rentonschools.us until nurses return to in-building hours in mid to late August. Nurses will check the email intermittently daily during regular office hours until the close of summer sports registration on June 28. Nurses will again review student-athletes in Final Forms after August 5 through the start of the school year.
  • Families can submit health information by email to summer.athleticsnurse@rentonschools.us , direct fax to Hazen at 425.204.4220, or drop off to the main office during summer office hours.
  • SUMMER FRONT OFFICE HOURS- June 20-26 8-12pm and 1-3pm, office closed 6/27- 8/9, open again 8/12-8/27 8-12pm and 1-3pm with the start of school Wednesday 8/28.
