School delay and closure information

Flash Alert contains up to date information about school delays and closures.

When decisions are made by Renton School’s Superintendent to delay or cancel school due to bad weather or other emergencies, the district works quickly to ensure the safety of all students and staff and to communicate changes to school schedules.

All parents and employees should expect to receive a call regarding the decision to delay or close schools from the district’s School Messenger system well before 6:00 AM to the family/staff member’s “primary” phone number. Information is also provided on local radio and TV stations, posted at the top front page of all school websites, and posted on the district’s social media sites Facebook and Twitter. Please continue to monitor these locations as it may be necessary for the district to make additional announcements and possibly changes to decisions due to changing weather conditions.

When bad weather causes a late start, all schools will start 2-hours late. Hazen will begin at 9:20

When school is delayed due to bad weather, all schools will open 2 hours late. School buses will run on “LIMITED TRANSPORTATION” routes.

When bad weather causes schools to close

When schools are closed for the day, school-based staff are not expected at schools. Also, all school, after-school and community activities held in school buildings will be cancelled, including all scheduled home and away athletic events.
•If the message says district offices are open, district support staff (at KEC and other support sites) are expected to arrive at work as soon as safely possible. If unable to make it in, staff should work with their immediate supervisor for work schedules and plans.
•If the message indicates that all schools and district offices are closed, only pre-identified essential personnel are expected to come to work.
